Editorial Policy

diabeticfoot.care publishes patient information about diabetic foot problems for adults in the United Kingdom and their families. This page explains how that information is written, checked and kept up to date.

Sources we use

Our pages are based on current clinical guidance and peer-reviewed evidence. The main sources are:

  • NICE guideline NG19, Diabetic foot problems: prevention and management.
  • The International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF) guidelines, including the 2023 IWGDF/IDSA guideline on diabetic foot infection.
  • NHS and Diabetes UK patient information.
  • Peer-reviewed research indexed in PubMed.

Each medical page lists its references at the end, and numbered citations in the text point to the source behind a statement.

Medical review

Every medical page is reviewed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüsrev Diktaş, infectious diseases and clinical microbiology specialist, before it is marked as medically reviewed. The top of each page shows whether review has been completed and on which date. Pages are not described as reviewed until that review has happened.

What we do not publish

  • Individual diagnoses, medicine doses or personal treatment plans.
  • Promises about treatment results, success rates or patient numbers.
  • Testimonials, case stories or before-and-after images.
  • Wound photographs. Our images are illustrations or general clinical photography and do not show real patients' wounds.

Urgent care comes first

Information on this website never replaces urgent local care. In the UK, signs of a serious foot problem should be assessed the same day through your GP practice, diabetes foot protection service or NHS 111, and emergencies through 999 or A&E. Our pages say this where it matters, before any information about contacting the specialist.

Updates and corrections

We review pages when guidance changes and at least once a year. Each page shows the date it was last updated. If you think something is wrong or out of date, please tell us using the contact details on the request an assessment page and we will check it.
